Worked example
A $42 cart is $8 short of a $50 free shipping threshold. With $7 shipping, paying shipping totals $49. Adding an $8 item brings the cart to $50, so paying shipping costs $1 less at checkout.
Assumptions
The threshold applies to the item subtotal before tax and discounts. The added item qualifies for the threshold, and shipping becomes free when the subtotal meets or exceeds it. Stores may calculate eligibility differently. An extra item is only worthwhile if you actually want it; this tool compares checkout spending, not the value of the item to you.
